Lens & Lens Material
In this guide
What does lens index mean?
Lens index is a number that tells how thin or thick your lenses will be.
A higher index lens bends light more efficiently, so it needs less material. This means the lenses will be thinner and lighter. Standard lenses usually start around 1.50 index, while thinner high-index lenses can go up to 1.74.

What are the most common lens materials?
Different lens materials offer different combinations of thinness, weight, durability, and clarity. The infographic below covers the four most common options — Standard Plastic (CR-39), Polycarbonate, High-Index, and Trivex — so you can pick the right material for your prescription and lifestyle.
